A note from the farmer…
I am writing this to give you the farmers perspective of the 1818 Harvest Box Program. Our harvest box has always been the core of our farm and remains at the centre of everything we do from January until late fall when the winter returns. Providing our community with a variety of fresh seasonal produce each week that resembles the changing of the seasons is what keeps our Harvest Box members connected to the farm. It also keeps myself, as a farmer, focused on variety over quantity. The passion I have for growing vegetables comes from the memories of visiting home gardens of friends and family across the country; being surprised and welcomed by the different colours and flavours each season brings. A frost sweetened rutabega is not something that can be enjoyed in June and a bunch of crispy radishes is much more pleasing in early may than in August. It is these small details that we consider when planning our season in December as we browse through seed catalogs while we are surrounded by 3 feet of snow outside. We also harness the power of a heated greenhouse, cat tunnels and row covers to keep yourself from waiting all summer to enjoy a fresh local tomato or a crunchy cucumber. The reality of running an organic market garden and offering the products to farmer’s markets, a retail outlet and a culinary program means that someone has to be prioritized; as a member of the Harvest Box program that someone is you! We don't just put whatever we have the most of each week in each box leaving you with the same food week after week. As a member of the Harvest Box program you can be sure that you are getting the best produce harvested that same week on the farm. You know your pallet best and that is why we allow you to swap out items for other items in case you wanted something different. I encourage you to become a Harvest Box member in 2026 and join myself in the wonderful growing season we sow in 2026!

That’s the other benefit of coming in person to the farmstand. While the majority of the items are pre-determined staples, you will definitely be able to make some choices for your box. Kale or spinach? Garlic or ginger? Thyme or rosemary? Cherry tomatoes or beefsteak? The choice is yours.

With the weekly harvest box (22 weeks) you are allowed 4 missed boxes. With the bi-weekly harvest box (11 weeks) you are allowed 2 missed boxes.
